When you’re new to online business building, it can seem like you need to learn an entire new language. Internet Marketing is full of buzzwords, abbreviations and acronyms; MLM, Guru’s, Firesales, PLR, MRR, article marketing, affiliate programs, PPC, PPA, CPM and many, many more. Sometimes what is needed is a simple, pain english definition. And often the best source is a common dictionary.

So, what is Network Marketing? Network Marketing is a business model where a network of distributors (affiliates) are used to build and grow the business. Often, a Network Marketing business can also have many of the same attributes as an MLM (Multi-level marketing) business- specifically when payouts take place at more than one level.

The term Network Marketing is occasionally used incorrectly to describe a business that uses a “network” of product suppliers (vendors). When used in this manner it is to try and differentiate the program from others like it-implying that the program offers more choices and variety in their products. Clear as mud?

Here’s another way to look at it. If you are an independent business person involved in an organization where your success depends on duplication-enrolling others in the same program-you’re involved in network marketing.

Reality check time.

Have you begun to detest bugging your own family members, friends, postman and grocery store checker? Have you ever considered that there are people who used to enjoy your company but now pray that you won’t bring up your latest ‘business’ opportunity?  Do you cringe at just the thought of ‘following up’ with your massage therapist/banker/dry cleaner after putting them on a conference call where someone else talks for 90 minutes explaining your opportunity? Have you begun dreaming of the day when you might once again be able to have a conversation without obsessively thinking up ways to get someone to “join”? Finally, have you developed a twitch that kicks in when you are told (usually by someone 1/2 your age)  “Do more of it!’ when you have no clue what you’re supposed to be doing more of?

If you answered yes to even one of these questions, congratulations – you’re a Network Marketer.

Fact: To succeed you’ll need qualified, targeted, interested leads. Challenge: How to get qualified, targeted, interested leads.

Often, a person will turn to their upline, or enroller (the person responsible for convincing you to join). You ask your upline for direction, and they provide it-free of charge. You ask your upline what to do and how to do it and you get your answer…sort of. Uplines don’t always tell you the entire story. For example when you ask about getting leads, they may tell you, “Don’t worry…I have a source that charges me only 50 cents a lead!” While it is entirely possible that he simply forgot to tell you that you have to buy them in batches of 1000, always remember that any advice you receive probably originated with your uplines uplines upline enroller. Besides, chances are good that your enroller has about 10 days more experience than you do.

So, hang in for the long haul or run Forest, run? I can tell you with absolute certainty that time, all by itself, will give you all the information you need to decide.

There are a whole lot of network marketing programs out there. In some you sell physical products, others digital products, and all will promise to teach you how to make money online.

Now this is strictly my opinion (based on personal experience)…One of the best network marketing programs available, and with a cost of just 10 bucks, is Global Domains International. With so many programs making so many promises (and so many vanishing within a year) it really comes down to choice.
